The HP Mini 2140
Like its predecessor, the Mini-note 2133, The HP Mini 2140 has a great design. The brushed aluminum and plastic casing is durable and hides fingerprints well. It also keeps the Mini 2140 lightweight at around only 2.4 lbs as configured. The sleek business appeal feels at home in the corporate world but the Mini 2140 is targeted toward students as well. One look at this machine and you can see why. Who wouldn't want an inexpensive mini notebook to toss in a backpack between classes, especially one that pretty much has a full-size keyboard?
HP has kept the design of the 2140 mostly unchanged from the 2133. The chassis is a solid combination of aluminum, plastic, and a magnesium alloy to support structure inside. The larger 10.1" display is beautiful and easy to read and the Mini 2140 comes with enough ports and storage capacity that you might even consider using this business grade netbook as your primary computer.
The optional 1366 x 768 resolution screen is the first on a 10-inch laptop and is a true High Definition display. The higher resolution display is a huge benefit compared to the standard 1024x576 screen as menus and web pages can now all be viewed correctly.
The keyboard on the Mini 2140 is simply fantastic and probably the best keyboard on any netbook available today. The keys have the silver "HP DuraKeys" finish that makes them resist dirt and makes the letters printed on the keys last longer over time. The touchpad is also well designed to provide the most user friendly experience.
The HP Mini 2140 also features the new Intel Atom Processor which outperforms the Via C7 of the old model significantly. With more processing power and less heat generated, the Intel Atom gives the Mini 2140 significant increase in performance and battery life.
The built-in speaker performance on the HP Mini-Note 2140 is also superior to most other notebooks in this class. The audio is excellent for watching short video clips or web conferencing, but it's also loud enough to enjoy music or full length movies with distortion free sound.
