ASUS may not have invented the netbook but they most certainly made it famous. The EEE PC 701 debut in late 2007 and quickly became one of the fastest selling computers available. Extremely small, light weight, and most importantly cheap, the original EEE PC had found a niche market that was just waiting to explode.
Fast forward to the present day and ASUS is still at the forefront of this rapidly growing sector. With a large number of different models available ASUS has tried to make a netbook to fit every individual's needs.
Every ASUS netbook comes with 802.11b and g connectivity (the latest models also have wireless n), 3 USB2.0 ports, an SDHC card reader, Realtek ALC662 High Definition audio, and built in stereo speakers.
The Original EEE PC is small, light, and highly portable. Ideal as an ultraportable or a spare laptop for the kids, the EEE PC 701 is the cost effective, entry level netbook from ASUS. The 701 has also been a hit with modders as the low price makes it a very cheap source of parts for a pet project or hobby. For example a number of users have upgraded their netbook with a touchscreen or larger hard drive.
The EEE PC 900 was the successor to the 701 and made improvements in a number of areas, namely the CPU, screen size, resolution, and storage options. There have also been a number of revisions to the original 900 model. For example:
- The EEE PC 900A features the 1.6Ghz Atom Processor
- The EEE PC 900HD features a 160GB Hard Disk Drive
- The EEE PC 16GB features one 16GB Solid State Drive
- The EEE PC 30GB features one 30GB Solid State Drive
All revisions of the 900 have the same external casing, screen, and keyboard. Some models however, also have a larger 5400mhA battery. The EEE PC 900 is almost the same size and weight as its predecessor making it one of the smallest netbooks available, as well as one of the most portable.
The EEE PC 901 came about 6 months after the 900 and was the first ASUS Netbook to feature the Intel Atom Processor. Along with the new CPU the 901 also features Bluetooth connectivity, a 6 cell battery, and the Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics processor. This makes the EEE PC 901 the smallest netbook available that features Bluetooth and a battery of this size.
The EEE PC 1000 series are the 10" netbooks from ASUS. Like the 900 series, the 1000 has a number variants with different options for hard drives and battery capacity. The 1000HE model in particular features a faster 1.66Ghz Atom processor, a 802.11n wireless adapter, and a larger 8700 mAh 6-cell battery. ASUS introduced the EEE PC 1000 series to compete with 10" competitors like the MSI Wind. Apart from the larger screen the 1000 models also have a bigger keyboard making them significantly easier to type on. The EEE PC 1000 series represent the top of the line EEE models, and make an excellent computer that is not only suitable for everyday use but also highly portable.

All-New Eee Docking Software
The 1005HA is the first Eee PC to offer ASUS’ new Eee Docking software, which provides easy access to utilities, software and digital content. It consists of the following: Eee Vibe, Sharing, Xperience and Tools, and all of these suites are easily accessed as the software “docks” to the top of the screen and is semi-hidden when not in use.
